| ECCLESIASTICAL

The Victorian era saw some secular stained glass in the form of aesthetic movement painted rondels,
and occasionally more complicated multi piece examples, however churches were the primary
application for the art form.
It is similar today, with stained glass predominantly being produced for churches of most
denominations; some contemporary, using modern techniques while older buildings may
require a more traditional, hand painted approach.
Bruce Hutton is a designer and qualified glass painter (B.F.A. Chisholm Institute 1987) and has been
working with stained glass since his graduation, both in Australia and abroad. His windows
are designed with consideration to the architecture, the proposed location and the wishes of the client /
church. He researches a topic thoroughly; then produces a 1: 10 scale presentation drawing for
approval.

The production of a stained glass window, following the acceptance of a design, involves the
development of a cartoon (a full size drawing detailing any figures and other elements within the
window). This becomes the basis for the glass painting and lead structure.
